Do you prefer Foreign or "Hollywood/American"movies?

Personally, I prefer both Foreign and American

I have no problem enjoying foreign language/foreign made films, but I have to say I feel most at home with American made movies.

Like it's fun to eat other cuisines but there's something about coming home to home cooked you were raised with.

You could make a home cooked foreign cuisine.

You meant to say, food that fits your nationality or you were trying to pun the phrase "home cooked".

I think that all major countries make good films... Americans sometimes think of foreign shows as better because the crap is already filtered out by the time they come over here. If you live here you see The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men... but then you also see Kevin Can Wait, Two Broke Girls and Dr. Ken. On the other hand we see Sherlock or Downton Abbey but we don't see the bad shows from the UK. Another factor I've noticed is that if you don't recognize an actor, it's much easier to see them as a real person as opposed to an actor you've watched their entire career. Because of this, foreign films often seem more real than an American one, because they might have a cast of seasoned veterans, but they will seem like unknowns to an American and that makes the whole production feel more like you are watching real life instead of a movie or tv show.

That is true to a certain extent, but seeing every week the movies that come out in America, most of them I don't want to see any more. I used to go to the movies once a week 20-30 years ago, now they all seem to be bad remakes, and product placement commercials. Even the good American movies usually have a certain mass-produced quality to them. And of course a lot of American movies have plenty of foreign workers and actors in them too.

If name and face recognition was a negative the studios probably would not do it. I wish they wouldn't, I hate seeing the same faces in movies, and celebrity success often ruins an actor/actress. But they did it way back in the 20's and 30's with many of the classics. For example the movie Casablanca, a classic, has a whole troupe of actors that show up in almost all of the other movies of that era, but they do not draw attention to it. Now, they make movies and when the star first shows up on the screen they make a big deal.

I think most American studio made projects these days are propaganda pieces for America.

Maybe, and also they are just not good. They pander to the so-called 'stars'.

It is the whole constitution, as in makeup, of the country now, all about celebrities and personalities and money.

Japanese movies are my favorite. Otherwise I don't really have many preferences. I watch movies from pretty much anywhere.
