No, Jim doesn't have the ability and would possibly get him in legal trouble. So You can take the name with a new profile here. If you see an old post respond.
shareHe actually put some kind of block that use to not be there. I remember, when I could create multiple usernames, I made one exactly like the name I had on IMDb. After about a week or so, I noticed that my account name had dashes between the blanks.
So it was not always like this; but I think it is because we cannot connect them, that it puts ways to differentiate the two.
I guess that makes sense, because knowingly or unknowingly someone could impersonate someone else and it could lead to trouble or mischief.
shareWell, I do not necessarily think it was done to prevent impersonation, but I really do not think there would have been a way to connect. IMDb and Moviechat are two separate databases and for that to happen, you would need some kind of coding with IMDb. I am not even sure how that would work. Even when I created my name, similar to my account name; it would just be the same thing. I still was not able to get notifications from my old account and so it would still be completely useless. When the blocking feature was created, it had basically taken away a duplicate of that account name. The account names that are empty shells will just stay and can never be used, as they are.
shareIf on IMDB someone had a friend, and got to know them outside of IMDB, and then hooked up with that same person's name on MovieChat, but it was not the same person, that could lead to problems, as well as taking someone else's name and claiming authorship of all their comments.
I guess this is best most fair thing they can do.
Well, I never knew people would go that far. I suppose, then, it would pose a problem.
Now if someone created the same username, who was not the original owner, just to claim authorship of all comments; I would think that would be a pretty pathetic thing to do. I mean comments are not really worth anything, other than an opinion at that given time. If the owner of that said username made another account, he/she would still be unaffected as that old username does not really define who they really are. Then again, it would be up to the opinion of people, if they would let that person slide or not. I think "new website" and everyone, regardless of their past user accounts, does not define who they are. Some people would probably be offended if that account, of someone they knew, became troll-ish and may take it out on that original person, even with their new account.
Trolls and miscreants of all kinds ruined IMDB for all of us. They will always try to find a way to annoy people. Look at social media, or You-Tube. Comments are worth something, if only to the person who wrote them, but some IMDB people made some very intelligent comments and critiques of movies. They pay critics a lot of money to critique a movie or TV show, and the IMDB people are not beholden to the movie industry.
But yeah, a lot of things people do online are pretty pathetic. ;-)
There needs to be some way to patrol, find and censor the troublemakers or people who do not know how to behave in public or be polite. It is more and more common these days. A lot of people are socialized by TV or the Internet.
It's cool how when you make a post here the color changes.
Yeah, it definitely is an improvement over IMDb. It also situates the post under the post you are replying to. IMDb, it was tough to find the original post that one replied to and so, unless you replied all and quoted, you would have no idea who to respond to and many times people would respond to you, when they meant to respond to the OP.
