A couple of years ago I was having a conversation with a friend who insisted that it would not be long before Hollywood and the media started pushing underage sex as normal and I laughed and said that would never happen because almost everyone would be horrified by that thought.
Recently though I have started to notice an increase in the amount of shows and films that somehow sexualise children and I find it incredibly disturbing that it seems to be on the increase and not just a one off.
I shall leave this thread here for anyone who has noticed the trend happening lately to comment on, and to document where people have seen instances of this.
There was one I saw a while back which I thought was went too far. Bad Moms I think it was. There was a running ''joke' about the little girl having found a vibrator and in one of the scenes she was holding it against her crotch.
There have been a few others I've seen that I can't think of the names off the top of my head which is why I thought I would make this thread to document and see if other people considered the scenes appropriate or not.
There is also that one cut scene in The Hangover when Alan is making the baby they find in the hotel, do adult like things. In Neighbors and Neighbors 2, you see a lot of that as well. I think it is more or less for comedic effect.
Where have you been? In California, high school girls look more mature and dress more mature than their actual age. It is something that is carried forth in California and then that sample is used in movies.
Then again, what age is a child really?
In the southeast, kids are popping out babies at like 16. Back in the day, the child bearing age was 13.
So really, I do not think Hollywood is too far off; however, they do what it takes to sell. Right now, teen pregnancy and children looking older than they should, are topics in the spotlight.
Sorry, but I will not 'lighten up' about a subject as serious as child exploitation, especially sexual exploitation. If I see something I think is innapropriate I will say so.
I can see the funny side of some situtations, but as in the above mentioned example I think it went too far in one particular scene. When the scenario with the girl was first shown it reminded me of an advert I saw years ago where some parents to their boy child to a friends house to play with their boy child and when they go to pick them up the find them using with 2 vibrators as light sabers or swords (can't remember which it was). Now that scene is something that could happen in real life so you can see the funny side of it, but the particular scene I described was totally unnecessary and innapropriate imho.
Well, off the top of my head, some series I've watched recently are THE COLLECTION, AUSTRALIA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, DAMAGES, BOMB GIRLS, CALL THE MIDWIFE, GRACE & FRANKIE, and ORPHAN BLACK.
I don't recall any sexualization of children in them that match the OP's concerns.
.
What shows are you talking about then?
You only gave one example which you think might actually be a different movie, but one example does not make a trend.
They were way more permissive about this subject during the 70s... there were a lot of French films on this subject... one later became "Blame It on Rio"... I just saw a film called Night Moves that had nude scenes with a teenage Melanie Griffith.
If you truly are disturbed by this topic however, I don't know why you'd create a thread dedicated to this subject asking for documentation as it would only draw attention to those scenes. Personally, I don't think many exist as you yourself didn't list any examples supporting your argument.
They were also way more likely to turn a blind eye or do nothing or dismiss child abuse in the 70's which is what allowed people like Jimmy Saville to get away with decades of horrific abuse against children for the rest of his life.
I would hope we have learned something about protecting children and being vigilant against their exploitation since then.
I did give one example already and it is impossible to discuss the topic without pointing out what I thought was wrong with it.
When you say underage sex, do you mean 2 teens having sex with eachother, or like, little kids having sex with grown adults?
The storyline of teens having sex is nothing new.. Usually they just get over-18 actors to play the teens.
Most real life people also have sex before they are 18.
But if you truly mean little children (pre adolescent) being sexualized, I guess I have not seen that unless it is the plot of some crime drama
(busting a kiddie porn ring or whatnot).
Can you give some examples of shows or movies you mean?
Most Americans think "underage sex" means under 18, because Hollywood says so.
The age of consent in most states, Canada, much of the Americas is less, typically 16. However, most women are virgins at 16. Hollywood doesn't portray this.
