Great Older Couple Movies?

Though I'm getting tired of cliched genres, after watching thousands of love stories, I thought I'd narrow it down, since most are anyway. Seems like the older couples are better stories.

The Bridges of Madison County.

Hot hot hot between Meryl and Clint

reply

When you say "hot hot hot" is it exploitative filler?

How is the script? I might watch this right now.

reply

Exploitative filler? Not even a bit.

The script? Very dramatic and emotional.

Watch it....

A crap movie about extra-marital affairs justified because it's Clint Eastwood, and of course Meryl Streep would not do anything immoral. What a crap movie that was.

reply

Well, it's not "really" a love story, but "Batteries Not Included" is a wonderful movie with Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy.

On Golden Pond - 1981, won 3 Oscars

I didn't see that when it came out, but when I finally did I was surprised that it was very good. Except that they had to puff it up by referring to kissing as "sucking face" to try to be cool or something. Never heard that expression anywhere else before or since.

reply

HENRY FONDA AND KATHERINE HEPBURN...OF COURSE IT IS EXCELLENT...AND SUCKING FACE IS A COMMON EUPHEMISM FOR AGRESSIVE KISSING...AT LEAST IT WAS.

Harold and Maude
Gran Torino
Calendar Girls
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Not all about couples but about old people.

reply

I loved Gran Torino and Harold and Maude.

reply

Harold and Maude is such a fantastic and very underrated film. Glad I decided to carry on watching it after wondering about the first 5 minutes and whether it was going to be cheesy or not. It most certainly wasn't.

reply

It really is. A friend whose taste I trusted recommended it to me, so I knew I'd like it, but had no idea what to expect otherwise. Quirky to the Nth degree, funny, joyful, sad, and romantic.

Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort were superb in it.

reply

Except for Harold and Maude ... yuck

has any1 seen "45 Years"? There's this girl I know who asks me almost every day if I've seen it. I like Tom Courtenay (Loneliness of a Long-Distance Runner" is my favorite movie from the UK) but I saw the previews when I was last in a theater..

If you have, could you rate it 1-10?

reply

I gave it an 8/10. Tom Courtenay is great but I think it's Charlotte Rampling who comes away with the honours at the end.
Must be a while since you went to the cinema? Saw it in the UK a couple of years ago now.

reply

Thanks... I saw "Spotlight" in 2016 (and once again that same year to re-watch "I, Daniel Blake" just so my cousin could actually watch it instead of his phone), and the last time was probably 2002ish, when I saw "Fahrenheit 9/11"

I used to go a lot in 2000 and 2001, but I've never seen a good movie. Oh, and I saw a horrible movie (this girl wanted to see it) called "Across The Universe"... I don't like musicals, but our eyes weren't really on the screen.

reply

It's a terrific movie.
