If your kid has been exposed to critical thinking that is a bigger favor to them than trying to cherry pick schools or instructors. Your kid may not agree with you 100 percent on all topics but it should help in terms of not being taken in by a charlatan. Nonetheless there is a benefit to knowing an instructor's leanings before you sign up as they can have a bias against you in terms of your background. It happened to me with one instructor while I was a student many years ago. Most of the material on tests came during the "review sessions" with the TA's of which you had to find out when they were happening which seemed to be privileged information as I never knew when these were taking place. Lecture as it turned out was a big waste of time. At the same time God Bless the instructor who let me take his course based on me picking up the notes from lecture through a TA and only physically required to attend lab. A straight shooter whose only concern was that the students could learn without being put at an disadvantage time wise.
