I think some of them have multiple accounts with extremely similar names. I blocked one of them as soon as I found out about the ignore button and two hours later one of his shitposts came up again.

Wait... I just thought of something... If everyone is simply ignoring the trolls, how would they get reported and dealt with? Can mods still ignore people? Am I missing something here? Is the trick just to report before ignoring?

I'm assuming Jim knows how many times a user was ignored. Knowing this, it's easier to deal with trolls (some shadowbans would be great).

Not everyone will put the trolls on ignore. The other trolls want to see their posts so that they can continue the Itchy and Scratchy show.

Mods probably should not ignore anyone, since they need to see everything.

If a board has any traffic it will have a lot of trolls, especially until moderators arrive doesn't matter where you go. Jim should've either moderated himself or had a few real life friends help him with this project when he started it just to avoid this situation. As I said before, a lot of these trolls are clever and it will require Blade Runner like skills to tell the trolls from the regular posters. It's at the point where he should try to quietly recruit some people from different boards, so he knows they aren't just kissing his ass to get the job.

He's done a great job, but it's like opening a new shopping center with a cholera epidemic. What it good is a nice selection of stores and beautiful architecture if you have a space riddled with disease. The community is the most important priority when making a website.

Yeah. Starting to regret ignoring some of them, but oh well. It's still better without their spam clogging everything.

Also, I think a better metaphor would be building a huge garden on your own. The flowers may be beautiful, but without help, the weeds will choke them.

That works... I just thought the cholera metaphor was more vivid and more emphatically expressed my negative feelings towards them. Don't regret ignoring them... I'm just making sure before I pull the trigger on them because it's not reversible. Eventually I expect to block them all too. Why live under the illusion that the board is more active than it is? I'd rather see a smaller community with sincere posters.

Yeah. It kinda sucks that it gets rid of all the following posts instead of only the person you're ignoring, though. Like if a troll made a post, but someone made a witty comeback, I wouldn't be able to see the non-troll's response without logging out.

Just keep a separate window or tab open and you don't need to log out... or use incognito mode to view the ignored posts. No need to log in and out. But I'm truly not curious to see what they are writing so I don't even do that. I'm sure over time Jim will fix all of those things... seems like he's learning this on the job.

I mean, it's better than nothing but I was really hoping for a Facebook-style block feature that makes yourself invisible to whomever you're blocking as well. On IMDb the ignore feature had little effect on determined trolls. A block feature would be better. Hopefully this is just a first step to that.

Fantastic!!! I will however think twice or three before putting someone on ignore. Under one thread someone fits (due to prior comments on other threads) the idea of a troll, and on other threads will answer with a decent and relevant comment.
