Taking bets on when the new moderators start trolling regular users.

Jim's done a marvellous job of setting up these message boards in such a short time and I don't think anyone can fault him for his efforts, grace and patience.

He's recently said that the next option will be to appoint moderators and add an ignore function.

Whilst I think both of these ideas are good the moderators current have nothing to moderate due to a lack of rules on the site. When asking for volunteers two weeks ago many put themselves forward to moderate, the rules didn't exist then either.

This leads me to believe that some people who have only been knowable in any capacity for a month are on a list of potential candidates for the moderation team.

Judging from the lack of people wanting to discuss rules over those thinking we should be throwing power towards these anonymous people I'd say the troll level here is fairly deep and the efforts they've put in with grace and patience may pay off for them as trolls will then be moderators.

Onto the thread title, how long do you think it will be before we start seeing the effects of these trolls assuming they start next weekend?

I'm going for April 1st, that seems to be a good day for their types of antics.

My concerns are is that I want unbiased and fair moderators. I visited sites where the administrator made his friends or were power hungry. If they didn't like you or they knew you tough luck.

I didnt want to be apart of a community like that. I hope jim choses wisely and see through the curtain. Wilson I think you and Styx would be good moderators and if jim sees this I hope he considers it.

Exactly. It's a make or break for this site. I have seen good users turn into maniacal authoritarian moderators once they are assigned powers

You know what I'm saying Ben. I refused to go to Betty's site because of that reason or any of the others. If we are going to thrive as a community Jim will need to really screen these people. I don't know what he has planned to do that but I trust him to be wise in his descision.

It would really be a shame if this site becomes hostage to such moderators/moderation. I love this place.

Thanks for your considerations for myself as a moderator Strannger but I feel my role here would be much more useful making sure that moderators know what they can and cannot do. I require no powers other than words in order to make that happen and I think that's why so many are trying to label me as a troll for trying to question the authority which they seek without knowing the responsibilities which it actually entails.

Styx seems like a good choice though, I don't know if they've put themselves forward but I feel they are level headed and enthusiastic enough about film and discussion to make informed choices about potential troublemakers around here.

Wilson i have seen some users attack you for you defending freedom of speech and being the sane voice of reason here. Some of them even want YOU gone. It's a shame really, these power hungry trolls pretending to be good users.

I am hoping Jim has enough time between his updates to keep an eye on who is who and what their motivations for posting here are Ben.

I think I want what Jim wants, a return to discussing film and TV shows with others with occasional off topic threads and comments to keep communities vibrant and thrive from each others good intentions.

I can take people labelling me as a troll as it is only words and they only have power if you grant them it.

Others though might not be as laid back about being insulted as me though, those are the ones we must keep an eye out for and make sure those who should be protecting them from the worst of the trolls instead of those who may disagree with those in power's current positions on things such as politics or sports or film genres.

I'm sure it will settle down, but we need to highlight it prior to it being proven to show those who don't understand the formation of communities how it will always work - regardless of the reason for these communities.

Some wish to grab power, I wish to constantly question those who wish to grab until all that is left of them is their integrity and from that point forward they will have my full support.
