Why do Trolls hide under different names?
Any reason as to why they don't just reveal themselves?
shareAny reason as to why they don't just reveal themselves?
shareNipsey, IMO to both questions, they think autonomy gives them power.
sharebecause they are frustrated wannabe tough guys and it's the closest they can get to be one.
shareBecause their MO is to fool people, and then cause destruction. Apparently it's not "fun" to reveal themselves immediately and blow their cover right away.
Personally, I don't get the whole trolling thing anyway. Seems like an unmitigated waste of time and energy. Plus I'm not a sociopath, or anywhere on the spectrum of it, so it makes no sense to me.
Maybe it's best to read what former (reformed) trolls say about it, here.
1. They are bored
2. They want attention
"Trolls lack stimulation in real life. A trollβs behavior reflects a deep insecurity so having someone respond to their words gives their life meaning, regardless of how pathetic that may sound."
I read that, thanks. I still really don't *get* the motivation. Or maybe it's just that I can't relate to it. SO much time and effort expended for such a tiny payoff. Or so it seems to me. [IMDB shruggy emoticon]

Simple as that. Some people can't help themselves though and give trolls exactly what they're seeking/craving. It can be a very sad/vicious cycle at times.
Good read Apis, thanks! π

shareA better question is, why do people give them so much attention?
shareIt's not attention that people give them,it's the fact that they ruin a good experience plus they tend to use other methods to continue harrasing others

Amen Dazed!!!! An ignore/block button is what needs to be added ASAP. That's the best protection there is against them.
shareWith every reply and thread made to a troll, it's giving them one more bit of attention that they are seeking. Attention is their nourishment. Every reply/engagement is yet another tidbit of food for them. Cut off the food supply and they eventually weaken and tire. But a lot of people are unable to bring themselves to do that. They enjoy engaging them. Sometimes, to me, feeding a troll is more sad than trolling. It can be just as pathetic as the troll itself.

I hear you. Hopefully Jim will get that done soon. It's the #1 thing we've been asking for from the beginning.

shareidiot troll
shareWell, this will be the first time I'll be clicking on the [-] button!! ROTFLMAO!!!!

See the little clickable thing by the post that says "ignore"? Not buying the trolls ruin the experience because all anyone ever has to do is ignore the person they don't like. I know kind of scary to think you the humble poster have that kind of power.... but you do.
shareI fully support free speech
share[deleted]
There is a limit to free speech though. Like death threats/terroristic threats etc... And I know it's been said countless times, but you can't falsely shout fire in a movie theater without there being repercussions.
shareI think people like a place to hide, they create an on-line name as to not reveal their, true identity. Some even are known to create multiple accounts known as socket puppets and create problems that way.
shareAnd I support people's rights to ignore others if they wish.
shareThere are all sorts of trolls. My favorite on the old boards was one who would have you believe he was a woman from Canada. When the shut down was announced it came out that She was a He.
He was a real pain in the ass but always entertaining.
He had many different names. One was NotSteveCarson, Another was Better Than This, and so many other handles......
