The Walk of Shame
Okay so who cried/freaked out when the site went down for maintenance this time? Come on, own up.
Don't be shy.

I missed the downtime. But I think I wouldn't have freaked since he warned us first.
shareI'll admit that I got nervous earlier too...but was relieved when it came back up. I knew that Jim was working on some updates at the time, so I attributed the brief downtime to that. Since then, however, all has been well. How are things on your end?
shareI'm not going to lie, I was still a tad nervous despite knowing it was a maintenance downtime. I think it's because it doesn't help that the page ends up being a DNS failure, rather than an 'oops, we're down for maintenance but will be back shortly' page. It even got me thinking that within those few minutes during downtime, with that kind of page it could have deterred millions of potential fresh IMDb meat into thinking the website doesn't exist.
Well maybe 'millions' is far-fetched, but you know :P
I hear you! Speaking of which, I have been noticing lately that more and more people have been coming here claiming to be former members of IMDB. That could be a good or bad thing, based off the fact that IMDB did have a lineup of notorious trolls on their boards. But in a way, I like knowing that this website is starting to pick up some steam.
Maybe one day Moviechat.org can rival IMDB in terms of popularity. That would be really nice!
That's my vision as well. I envision that this place will be the most popular, the most sought out after, the most trafficked, and that Jim receives all his glory whether it'd be financially and/or vocationally. This could be his full time job if it kicks off!
shareGlad that we both agree!
Nothing makes me happier right now than to support Jim, this community, and this website (which appears to be Jim's "baby" if you will). I look forward with great anticipation to see what this website's future holds. Even though someone once mentioned this earlier (I believe it was the user Styxnyx), it's worth repeating again, in my opinion. Jim's daily updates have me waiting as if someone is preparing to give me a big ol' Christmas gift!
On that note, I do wish everyone the best here, along with Jim as well, whom I can't thank enough for all of his hard work here. If this does in fact turn into a full time job for him, then I also wish him the best of luck as well!
Yep...totally agree with everything you said, jmc. And three cheers for Lord Jim!! YES! πππ
shareI spammed IMDB's FB wall a bunch of times last night and a few nights ago, to promote this site to people that are wanting the boards back. They look like good sensible people. Saw a couple others doing the same. Hopefully, like you said, jmc, they are not trolls coming here.
shareKeep going. I will conquer reddit while you rampage FB. I will annoy millions with persistence and tenacity but I care not ^^
share-
shareI surely will! Awesome, Babe! I rarely ever go to Reddit. Do you know if anyone is tending to Twitter? I haven't checked over there yet.
shareNo idea, but I think I read that someone mentioned sending twitter tweets or whatever it's called, on IMDb to inform people of this MC's existence. We're on the right track :)
shareYeah, you're right, I read that too...and yes...it's called "tweets". I hope they're still sending them. I may pop over there later just to check and if there aren't any tweets, I'll post a few. π
shareWell...I just went to Twitter and left a few posts for this site...it's flippin' dead over there! Hahaha...I love it!
shareI don't personally use Twitter, but I've heard the place is full of trolls....which is usually enough to keep me away. But if it means getting the word out for Jim's fantastic site, then I'm all for it. :)
shareI don't hang there at all, I just go check on a couple actor/musicians I like a couple times a week for a few minutes just to see what they're up to and that's it. I don't even talk to anyone there. I DID look up Jim's page and am following it now. He only has 41 followers so far and 5 tweets...not much yet but hopefully it'll pick up.
shareI have only gone there a few times myself to look at the "Trending Topics" and a few actors / musicians that I like as well. Aside from that, I don't have an account there, but I did come across Jim's page as well. As you mentioned, there are a few tweets and followers, but I'm sure that those numbers (as well as his tweets) will grow once this site picks up some more steam.
It seems to me, though, that I have noticed more and more people coming around lately so maybe word of this site is starting to spread after all. :)
I have a Twitter account but not really sure why I made it now...lol.
I'm also seeing more and more people coming here. Every day I see different names. It's nice to see the place grow before my eyes. Haven't run across any more trolls yet either...unless they're hiding on another board. π

shareNo problem, 9, it was my pleasure. I want this site to flourish big time! π
Yeah, I think they say it's the worst because they don't realize it's still a baby that's been started from scratch. They're expecting a full website with all the trimmings. Spoiled little brats is what they are. π
What? Who said MC is the worst? :@ Where are they?!
shareI've seen a few punk ass kids on FB say moviechat.org is no good and that TMDb is way better. Well of course they THINK TMDb is better but they don't have the old IMDb message boards like we do...which, in my book, makes this site 100x better! If they don't like us, then we don't need them. They're probably trolls anyway.
shareNot a fan of TMDb's layout at all when compared to the greatness known as Jim and his site here!
shareI missed it too...and I KNOW I would've freaked out! π²
shareI missed it, but I'm pretty sure I would've freaked the hell out if I hadn't.
shareI admit I did freak out a little bit - I missed the warning message, so it was totally unexpected to me. When I tried half a dozen times to no avail, I assumed it was probably maintenance, but all the same could not get over the sinking feeling that the site might not come back... so I searched for an answer: imdb2, TMDB, general internet... (I was getting desperate) Eventually I read a post by someone on imdb2 that Moveichat was now gone (paraphrasing), so I got a bit panicked and was trying to make a decision about where i should shuffle off to: TMDB or imdb2 - but I didn't want to give up hope because of the 3 sites, i prefer moviechat so much more. So, I decided to put it out of my mind & come back the next day - et voilΓ , all is right with the world once again - phew!
shareI feel your pain. It makes me a little angry that people on other IMDb alter-ego boards keep saying that the site is either gone or 'the worst'. Neither is true and they're just trying deceive people into joining them. I said earlier "I think it's because it doesn't help that the page ends up being a DNS failure, rather than an 'oops, we're down for maintenance but will be back shortly' page" which would have helped you in your case ¬¬
I'll give Jim a site downtime suggestion but the guy has enough on his plate. :/
