Even twitter is upset about imdb messageboards being gone.

OMG....this just reminded me we can go rail at the powers that be at the imdb facebook page about their (possibly ILLEGAL!) early shut down!

reply

Cookie, it's probably not illegal, just rudely handled.

The boards shut down at 12:10 UK time, according to users from there. That would be their Feb 20th, nearly on the dot.

IMDB made the major mistake of not being clear about that part, but I'm not sure they committed an illegal move. I know IMDB originated from the UK, but I'm not sure where their current Headquarters are now. Perhaps they still reside there.

Message boards weren't closed "early". Unless you're only reference point is North America.

No one's entitled to a message board. What's with all the whining and screaming about the big bad IMDb owing the kids their foul speech anyway. Sheesh. It wasn't as fun as it was in the early days anyway.

reply

No, I'm admittedly being melodramatic. I know it's not illegal. I've just been a member there for over 15 years, and would visit the message boards weekly. It is sad to see something iconic die.

It's like a dinosaur toppled over, or something.

@Muzzy Re: << Message boards weren't closed "early". Unless you're only reference point is North America. >>
Right, but the entertainment industry primarily means HOLLYWOOD to most people....so we Americans just (rashly) assumed that was what the time was aligned to. Or at worst, EST.

Mozy, to some of us it was more than just a discussion or reviews of a show or actor,etc... it was where we went to talk to online friends and have that connection of similarity. So to some of us, its not entitlement, but sadness. We just didn't know the timing so it threw us for a loop.
