What are the rules and regulations? Do we get a time out quota
Like IMDb
shareI don't know....but I would like a MEET YOUR MAKER thread about the guy who built this bomb shelter, and kindly archived so much!!!
shareWe need to take into account that MovieChat's staff will not be the nearly the same size as IMDB's moderator staff, and IMDB had enough trouble keeping up as it is.
MovieChat forums will have to have more built-in features to stop excessive trolling. Perhaps a downvoting system, where spam/offensive material, and off-topic posts are downvoted, and then become lighter in color, until they hit a threshold and disappear from view. The community will look out for trolls and help filter "the junk" out.
And if that user constantly hits a threshold of downvotes, they are suspended for a certain period.
When it comes to sock accounts, I'll leave that to Jim. He'll have to figure out a way where trolls cannot create 20 sock accounts with ease. Maybe have a rule where newly-registered users can only make 5-10 posts at first, and then slowly add more privileges (thread creation for instance) with each passing week?
Trolls want attention and love making threads. We have to limit that when it comes to new users.
Trolls could also abuse that downvote feature though. And people could abuse it on people who simply have unpopular opinions, like on Amazon. I don't think a downvote system is a good idea.

That is true. I have seen that happen on Reddit.
But, at the same time, take away the upvote/downvote feature on Reddit, and the conversations would be far worse and chaotic.
It could still be abused here, I know. Maybe don't allow new users to downvote yet? They have to spend 30-60 days (just using random numbers here for examples) to earn the privilege to downvote, PM, post threads.
I'm just trying to look at it from Jim's perspective. He seems to be doing this all by himself, voluntarily, and I'm not aware of any others helping him right now. So it would be very difficult for him to monitor so many threads and posts. He could even be working a job somewhere and doing this in his free time.
Regulations can seem harsh, but sometimes they are necessary to filter out invasive trolls.
