For me it has to be the ORIGINAL Blair Witch Project. Saw that when I was just a kid and couldn't sleep for weeks after. Also, to this day, I've never been camping solely because of that movie.

There are 2, difficult for me to differentiate the rank.
*The original "Wicker Man" from '73 with Edward Woodward. It bears repeated viewings, but, they are difficult to take, because you now are cognizant of the decimating denouement awaiting this decent man, an airplane pilot as well as constable realizing that once he touches down on that isolated bay he's a dead man walking. Christopher Lee is just outstanding here, his smile hideously effective. There is a fine scene of Britt Eckland dancing very naked on one side of a bedroom wall whilst on the other side Edward Woodward is fighting temptation & winning! It's difficult to enjoy her in this scene, but, I strove mightily & succeeded satisfyingly.
This is one that stays with the viewer.
It's all done twixt 88 minutes & a 94 minute uncut delivery.

*"When a Stranger Calls." The original from '79. It's done well & without showing the goods. Killing two tykes with nary a weapon but his bare hands is terrifying enough. We're privy to a sound taped session with the psychopath & it's graveling. We're also shown him in confinement in the asylum. These scenes are incredibly shot & absolutely terrifying.
A most fascinating facet of this production is the conspiracy to murder this psychopath after his escape from the asylum. He announces his return to his killing ground in a most diabolical fashion. It is then that the portly Charles Durning, a PI hired by the original family & the responding officer to the original children's massacre, now a police lieutenant (Ron O'Neal---he's excellent here) conspire to commit murder. Durning will use lock needles. O'Neal closes his office door & advises him..."Take your time, do it right."
He misses with the lock needles as the psycho is closer than one can even imagine.
The entire company here did good.
Seven is probably the movie that scared me the most.

I watched Threads for the first time last week. I can imagine that it was quite effective back in the day, but it has not aged well imo. It was dissapointing after hearing good things about it. Rather dull to be honest.

shareI'm with you. The Blair Witch Project is such an uncomfortable viewing experience. I feel just as lost and hopeless as the characters when I watch it.
