Ricky Schroder's TV movies

Here are the ones I've seen:

1. Something So Right (1982) Ricky's first TV movie. Ricky plays a 12 year old who has (slight) behavioral problems, so his mom (the great PATTY DUKE), gets him a "big brother". (A single older stranger who is willing to spend time with her son.) The movie is pretty bland, watchable mainly for the likability of it's stars.

2. Two Kinds of Love (1983) Ricky plays a 12 year old who loves his mom (LINDSAY WAGNER) very much. He and his father are distant. Soon it becomes clear that his mother is hiding her illness from him. This movie is meant to be a tear-jerker, and although it didn't make me very sad, I still enjoyed it.

3. A Reason to Live (1985) Ricky's depressed father (Peter Fonda) is planning to commit suicide and Ricky tries to stop him. Deidre Hall has a supporting role as Ricky's mom and Tracey Gold plays a girl who likes him. This is not great, but not bad either.

4. Out on the Edge (1989) Ricky plays a very needy 17 year old, whose mom (MARY KAY PLACE) is busy with her job and her boyfriend. He rebelliously breaks a huge intercom machine, so his mom throws him in an institution. I like this one, and I recommend it to fans of Ricky or Mary Kay Place.

5. The Stranger Within (1990) KATE JACKSON stars as a mother who's child is kidnapped as a baby. Years later, Ricky shows up on her doorstep, telling her he's her son. This creepy, suspenseful thriller is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITES! MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

6. A Son's Promise (1990) Ricky stars as the oldest of 7 poor brothers who are determined to stay together after the death of their mother. The movie is mainly about Ricky struggling to make enough money to prevent foster care from splitting the boys up. Stephen Dorff costars as one of the brothers. The movie isn't very good, and is only for die-hard fans.

7. My Son Johnny (1991) MICHELE LEE stars as a single mother of two adult sons who still live with her and work in her furniture store. Ricky (her older son) always fights with her younger son. Their family feuding ends in murder. I really like this one too.

8. Too Close to Home (1997) JUDITH LIGHT is Ricky's over-possessive mother. I don't want to ruin this movie, but it's very good, and I recommend it.

9. Hostage High (1997) This was before school shootings were so commonplace. Ricky stars as a frustrated former student who returns to his high school with a gun. Most of the movie deals with Ricky holding one class hostage (and yelling at everybody). Freddie Prinze Jr. has a large supporting role as a student, and Henry Winkler plays the hostage negotiator. This one is only for die-hard fans of any of the 3 actors mentioned.

.....Those are the ones I've seen, but I know RIcky has starred in many more TV movies, and he continues to do TV movies to this day.

I've only seen him in MURDER AT DEVIL'S GLEN aka WHAT WE DID THAT NIGHT
RETURN TO LONESOME DOVE
THE CHAMP
and my very favorite THE STRANGER WITHIN
I'm still looking for a copy of INNOCENT VICTIMS, been wanting to see that one for ages. MY SON JOHNNY sounds good also, will keep my eyes peeled for that one as well.

Too Close To Home is such a creepy movie, but it's definitely worth watching. It shows up every so often on Lifetime.

Since starting this thread, I've watched 3 more of his TV movies, and I just added them to my original posting.

I own and enjoy Innocent Victims (1996). It's a four-hour, true crime based-on-a-true-story miniseries starring Ricky Schroder, John Corbett, Hal Holbrook and Rue McClanahan.

14 hours is a fantastic movie. He plays a doctor in Houston during a hurricane. I do believe it is based on a true story.

Head injury survivor. Please pardon my mistakes.

I had wanted to see 14 Hours. JoBeth Williams and Kris Kristofferson are in it, too, right? I saw an ad for that movie in magazines when it first aired, but I never saw the movie.

reply

Yes they are it is well worth the watching.

Head injury survivor. Please pardon my mistakes.

An interesting side note: One of my all-time favorite TV movies is the one Ricky did with Kate Jackson- "The Stranger Within".

A few months ago, Ricky was on Andy Cohen's talk show on Bravo, and Andy asked him, "Who was the worst star you ever worked with?'

Ricky hesitantly answered, "Kate Jackson". He then said what a disappointment it was, because he'd been a fan of Kate until he met her. Ricky wouldn't elaborate on what went on while filming, except to say, "Things got so bad that she refused to even say her lines to me when they were doing my close-ups. Crew people would read her lines to me, and they'd edit her in later."

...So I guess the tabloid stories about Kate Jackson are true.
