Why do people watch the american music awards?

I watch it for the performances. There's usually a breakout performance. For instance, I didn't know Niki Minaj could sing like she did. I became a fan for the first time.
The awards themselves are pretty meaningless as far as I'm concerned. But I like the show.

I watched it bcuz i wanted to see Maroon 5 performs Move Like Jagger hoping what Mick Jagger will pop up and started dancing with Adam Levine and hoping that Adele will perform showing todays artist that you dont have to have flashy costumes and dance routines to have a good live performance. Of course watching the show was pointless because i realize Adele throat injuries and mick didnt dance but they showed him on video singing the same song as will.i.am and j.lo. WTF!! that was so pointless!!!
