An Art Film From 1980 or 81

This English language movie is about a couple of lovers who are followed around by a pair of men who comment on everything the couple does, exactly as if they were watching a play or movie.
That is all I remember, unfortunately; I pray this brief description may suffice for at least one person to recognise this movie, which I want very much to watch again.

'tis basically a comedy with a surrealistic touch.

I'm getting the impression I'm the only person who remembers that movie.
Come on!: it wasn't that forgettable.

I have no idea what it is but now I'm intrigued. I'll have a look around and report back here if I find anything.

I searched far and wide but I couldn't find anything. Sorry, but I didn't have enough info to work with. I'll keep looking though but if you have any more information about it then please let me know.

It was mentioned in one of the episodes of the show that Siskel and Ebert had then. It was an episode dedicated to several new art films, one of which was the one we are looking for.

I've been watching a few of the "Sneak Previews" episodes from 1980 but no luck on finding that special. I think it might be the special "Take Two: Cult Films" episode but I've been unable to find any clips of that episode online. I have found an episode guide for "Sneak Previews" but unfortunately there isn't a list of films reviewed for that episode like the others. I'll keep looking around to see what I can find but perhaps you can email Roger Ebert and ask about the film since he reviewed it at one point.

I wonder why is this movie so hard to find. If it attracted the attention of Siskel and Ebert it must have been a notable film.
