Will there ever be another critically acclaimed LGBT show?

Queer as Folk (US), The L Word, Angels In America, all had critical acclaim, viewers, decent acting, budget, etc.

You would think that this would set up for future shows, mini series, etc to follow in their footsteps, but there really hasn't been anything, even with LGBT networks like HERE and Logo, nothing fresh or really that great seems to be getting made.

What do you think is up with that? We keep hearing about how everyone is more accepting now, and we know that there's plenty of LGBT people sprinkled throughout hollywood and the major tv studios to make things happen, so why aren't they? Is it just b/c so many shows have a token LGBT character now that LBGT characters have become over-saturated?

one dares not to mention insanity like dante's cove ...

I've never seen a full ep of that and don't think I will, eye candy can only make up for so much .......... plus I try to avoid anything that Charlie David is in, he realize acting isn't his thing, and maybe just stick to directing, producing, etc

i have season 1+2 on dvd and only got through probably 3 episodes, you're right about the eye candy, that was my thought exactly. the only reason i would watch this again would be tracy scoggins who is so over the top its hilariously funny.

If "Rupaul's Drag Race" hadn't gotten more and more fake and negative in tone as it went on, I think it could have been more deserving of some acclaim for making people more aware of what drag is or could be.

Then again "The L word" had some rather lousy final couple of seasons and is still quite highly regarded (I still think it is great in many ways, and I do enjoy Rupauläs drag Race still to be honest).

I think you're right that now that LGBT characters are trickling down into the 'regular' dramas, shows like QAF and L Word aren't as sought after any longer. The boundary has been broken, nothing left to excite the critics.

I do think we'll see another one someday, possibly when a teen-oriented network like ABC Family does something good that's LGBT related. I think it's time for something a little less soapy and more sentimental. With how much ABC Family focuses on diversity, I could see them doing a trans show in the near future.

When I read this I thought of "The New Normal"

I hope you'll like it. Personally I dropped it after about half the first season because it was a bit too cutesy and preachy for me.
