COMBAT!
Anyone remember the 1960's show COMBAT! I thought it was a great show.
shareCombat! is thought of as one of the best classic shows period. Best of the WWII tv series for sure -- heck it even lasted longer than WWII did. I was lucky to have it on the old Nostalgia network - then goodlife network. They also aired the 30 minute tv series Rat Patrol, along with Twelve O'clock High and Gallent Men. I don't think Gallent men will ever be released on DVD so I'm glad to have some of that series. The twelve o'clock high has a tad bit of action then a lot of wish-washey drama. Combat! is the best -- the drama is mixed in with the action to make it a good tv series.
shareSorry to divert the thread atherton, but shaneyfex: REGARDING 'Twelve O'Clock High', I seem to only remember the Col. Gallagher led shows; were the Robert Lansing/Gen. Savage more or less action than the later ones? I kinda recall the later shows keeping my 8yo hyper-active self fairly entertained.
Now COMBAT! and The Rat Patrol, even the less action ones (Especially Combat) were very well written and engrossing, whether under 10 or over 40.
You Can't Fool Me...I'm a Moron!
Mom watched it all the time when I was a child
shareTake the point, Caje.
shareI've been through the whole series and enjoyed it very much. There was some formula to it but that almost can't be helped. I found the color season interesting more for location shooting than anything wrong on the stories.
They shot in Franklin Canyon almost so much that it looked like they had a hard time finding new ways to frame it so it didn't seem so redundant. They also shot some episodes of the previous season there too.
They often had very good guest stars. Sometimes a bit too much shooting and not hitting anything but the underlying stories were often quite good.
More of a character study show than action. Some of the stories were even anti-war. Some episodes were directed by a soon-to-be-famous Robert Altman.
But throughout it all, my motto was "Dignity! Always dignity!".
The Nostalgia network only showed the Robert Lansing 12 o'clock high episodes. They had less action from what I remember, one episode (spoiler) he fell in love with some woman - really not his character in the show at all. Another thing is that the cast did not get along - thus breaking the show up.
shareWas just reading that Pierre Jalbert who played Caje on Combat passed away on Jan 22nd. RIP
