Dobbie Gillis

I see Decades TV has a Many Loves of Dobbie Gillis marathon starting 1PM July 4th. Watched and enjoyed this show when it first ran. Dobbie's buddy Maynard was my role model, which, people tell me, explains a lot?? Other memorable characters include Dobbie's folks, Winnie and Herbert T.(with the good conduct medal), Zelda with her squint (now cut that out), Chatsworth and his money, Thalia who i don't think lasted too long. but Dobie was never going to get her anyway, and their long suffering teacher, whose name escapes me, who followed them into the army.
What a motley crew...You Rang!

I remember watching that show, although I didn't identify with any of the characters. Cute comedy.

Managed to catch close to 20 episodes and enjoyed them all. Dobie sure had enough swings and misses at beautiful girls. Tuesday Weld was a hottie and Yvonne Craig(in various roles) was only a hair behind.
Have to correct my original statement about their HS teacher following them into the Army. He did not, but did re-unite with them in college after their army stint.

Favorite character was definitely Chatsworth Osborn Jr. I don't know the actor's name, but his portrayal as the tipsy waiter in the Peter Seller's movie, The Party, is one I'll never forget and can't help but chuckle when I conjure it up in my mind.

Chatsworth replaced Warren Beatty's character Milton Armatage as Dobie's rich and arrogant rival late in the first season. As Chatsey might say "A definite improvement, hay, Gillis baby."

What a fun series that was. One memory that I have is of wonderful character actress, Doris Packer, who played Chatsworth Osborne's mother, often referencing her son as "such a nasty boy." She said it a stuffy, elitist tone ... hilarious.

High school/college teacher was Mr./Prof. Pomfort (sp?) played by seemingly ubiquitous actor William Schallert, who's still acting at age 93. Academic colleague Prof. Imogene Burkhart (real name of actress Jean Byron). Mr. Schallert and Ms. Byron later played the parents of Patty Duke on her sitcom.

But throughout it all, my motto was "Dignity! Always dignity!".

Herbert T. Gillis (Frank Faylen) was the taxi driver in It's A Wonderful Life
