Special Effects Cameras?

What kind of cameras are used to film special effects such as matte paintings, models and minatures, etc.? I know motion control cameras are used in some cases, but what about others?

I saw a few documentaries where special effects are being filmed in post production and it wasn't motion control and it wasn't the same camera being used to shoot the live action. Is it a high speed camera or some kind of speciality camera to make the effect look realistic?

SFX units usually don't require sound, so they can use MOS cameras, which can run high-speed. Mostly they use an Arriflex 435.

Never go with a hippy to a second location.
