Total amateur has a question

My friend and I would like to buy a nice HD camera and start doing some filming, see if we can make anything good.

What I want to know is, are the best HD (or "full HD") cameras at Best Buy or Futureshop any good, or would I have to upgrade to some sort of specialty store? Is there anything worth getting (meaning capable of getting a nice picture that could be blown up to considerable size) in the $1000-$2000 range? Is there a website I can go to? Thanks.

Like I said: amateur.

I've learned that every rooster has his Spain, that it's located under his feathers.

Almost any camera can do HD for under $300 USD.
Don't spend more than $700 tops on any camera until you played around with a cheap camera and know how to edit. It's NOT the camera that makes a good story and video, it's what you do with it. Quality don't matter right now and as I said just stay with something cheap.

Look at these videos made with an HV-30 from Canon that's not sold anymore and you can buy it for under $600 Check these out: www.youtube.com/fotosafariclub
All these are in HD but in 1280X720 Letterbox format is OK to use.
