Canon's stupid proprietary format

I already paid for the rental of a Canon HL X1 for shooting a low-budget documentary. Seemed like a good camera, and I read up on it a bit beforehand, but somehow I missed the fact that it records to MiniDV tape in its own "Canon-only" format. So, from what I understand, trying to capture footage from the tape using a standard HDV deck won't work, because the tapes don't comply to the regular HDV standards.

Thanks a *beep* lot, Canon.

So, does anybody know if there is a deck out there that will play this? Does Canon even make video decks? I can't find much out about this other than that I'm SOL if I don't use the same camera.

Dude, you can say to ALL manufacturers about 'special' format, particular to Sony and their screwy proprietary things.

All ya got to do is put the tape into any canon cam using the tape and give it a shot.
You should have CAPTURED the the tape to your hard drive!
That's the first thing you do when you finish a tape or media card.
