Can I make some nice footage with a Canon Sx30IS?

It's my dad's old camera, I've be meaning to film some stuff, like a vlog, or a homemade short

Yeah, it's capable of doing some nice work. It's an entry-level camera but I've seen some really impressive video shot with a similarly entry-level T2i. Have fun with it!

You can definetly do that there are alot of companies like https://nasharzfilms.com https://www.E-sourceMedia.com https://www.Rodeo-design.com they are using canon SX30IS for there TVC shoots and even some small rodeo advertisements. Some people used the camera to make video tutorials on there websites.
