How was the wave created in 'Poseiden adventure'?
Have'nt seen it in a long time, but that wave was darn scary and HUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE!!! Way before CGI too. How would they do that? Would it of been a small wave, and it was made to look big?

shareI would imagine they had a scale model of the ship in a pool and used a wave machine or something. BTW GENE HACKMAN PLAYS A PREIST!!!

Yes that exactly how they did it. Most of the studios back in the day had large pools with some fancy hydrolics to get wave motion correct.
One of the big tricks that film makers used pre CGI was to slow the frame rate down to give the impression of size and scale
He is refering to the original made in '72 that had Hackman as a priest

Yeah the first film went a long way to starting the cycle of disaster films in the 70's - I always thought it was a lot grittier and believable than the remake. Mind you the CGI of the roll over in the remake was fantastic
The ship model is over 20 feet long. They had chutes that released thousands of gallons of water at it. They added a bit of detergent to give it that special look. It was done at Fox's Sersen Lake, which was basically a pool with a sky backdrop. It was also used in the 1953 Titanic among other films.
