Disaster films that deserve more attention

The Day The Earth Caught Fire was a really well made bit. Some of it doesn't age well, so of it may be "too British" for some (not me, but... there I am), but the story is interesting, the cast is superb, and the effects are strangely unsettling.

Miracle Mile is one of my all time favorite "little" films. Total bats#it insane by the end of the film, it pretty much leaves you hanging. The central plot device asks "Did it happen or not?" When you get the final answer, it is dead in the face... if you have seen it, sorry about the bad pun.

Def Con One is cheese, pure cheese and nothing but the cheese, and I love it. Silly, stupid... a disaster as a film, and a disaster film as well, it is good, goofy popcorn time.

Remember when we said there'd be no future? Well, this is it. -- BLANK, Reg

Tornado! - It has Bruce *beep* Campbell in it, and even though it was a TV movie, it came out BEFORE Twister.

Well, according to wikipedia, the idea came up in 1992 for Twister but production didnt start until 1995. I can't find anything on production for Tornado!

I'm not sure that I've seen Night of the Twisters but I will definitely check it out.

J-Street-9 I'll second your Night of the Twisters. Although the near ending tornado scene is a bit of hokum it's still a pretty good movie with a likeable cast and fairly decent acting.

Category 6 is better IMO than it's given credit for. Yeh of course you know that in the end all's well that ends well, but it does a reasonably good job of keeping the tension up. I'm pretty sure it's m4tv but still...

Anyway, completely avoid the sequel, Category 7. For reasons other than the tornadoes, it sux big time.

Bullet Train!
A Japanese disaster movie from the mid-70's. The plot predates "Speed" with nearly 20 years, yet no one has ever heard about it!
