Poseidon vs The Poseidon Adventure??
I watched both and I'm still for the original... any thoughts???

Poseidon was an abomination. The Poseidon Adventure all the way.
Oh spiffing. Absolutely spiffing. Well done. Two dead, twenty-five to go.

I haven't seen the remake but I own the original and we watch it once or twice a year. I so love this movie! Sure it's cheesy and simplistic but it's a classic. The plot holds up surprisingly well and Shelley Winters is outstanding.
No contest...the original. I have posted my review of POSEIDON on this board.
shareThe original movie had heart, for all its strengths and flaws. Memorable cast and characters, memorable Williams score... scenes that stayed with you long after leaving the theater. It's quaint today, but I definitely remember seeing it in theaters and always noticed how audiences responded to the movie.
The new movie is soulless and flat, for all its technical chops and skill. Decent actors adding up to a lackluster cast with utterly generic and forgettable characters. Music (Klaus Badelt)was competent but nothing memorable. Effects were generally excellent, but in the service of a "nothing" movie. Gratuitously sadistic deaths and carnage, but with what we get today, I guess it could have been worse....perhaps more realistic than the original, but doesn't make a movie you really want to remember.
It's still watchable compared to that outlandishly trashy mini series, but not by much.
"You know what, Stewie, if you don't like it, go on the internet and complain."
I like both movies, but the original movie is a classic. Very few remakes ever hold up to the original. Even few surpass it. This one comes nowhere near it. The only reason to make it was to capitalize on the name and gain money.
