Why do country fans have a reputation for being old rand conservative?

I read somewhere that the only genre of music Republican candidates feel safe to use as there campaign tune is country. Where does this stereotype come from and is it true?

Its popular in southern states which are historically "conservative" and Republican. I use the quotes because the bible belt has the highest divorce rate, adultery and illegitimate children. The irony...I know.

I would say Country Music is actually more popular in the Midwest, than it is the South- even though it originated there. Country Music represents Middle American values. Stop bashing conservative ideals. Liberals can be just as bad in their life choices.

In General, Country Music fan base is more conservative- it has always been that way. It represents Middle America. There are still liberal County fans/artists. I don't see anything wrong with being older and conservative! There is nothing wrong with it. Stop being an ageist.

Not sure but I know a lot of country music fans here in Australia including my Wife and if you go to some of the concerts and festivals like CMC Rocks they are mostly full of people aged between 20-50.

If anything most country music fans have a reputation for being loud and rowdy. 
