The heart of Country Music is the lyrical content...

Unlike other genres, Country music is very much a song driven genre. Meaning its rooted in the song, and not so much "the sound" or composition. That is sort of the icing. The argument is that Country music tends to sound the same. It really doesn't , only to the untrained ear because most people who have only a casual listening to Country only hear the same old songs.

But the truth is, Country is a very diverse genre of music. It isn't like its going to be progressive Rock. But the song craft is very important. The lyrics. And the lyrics have some kind of under tone to them. Country is a singles market, which is really more like Country Music is actually more like true Pop music than anything else.

If country really is a singles market, then I guess that it wouldn't have mattered if my newest favorite had entered the format any sooner. Ever since his going forward last fall, its been almost nothing but the beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal for me, if I only I had found him sooner, and one thing about him that stands out in my opinion is there not being any albums from him at all during the 70's decade. After his Cherry Hill Park album was released in 1969, the next album from him was not released until 1980. (shaking my head)

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. 1985 I believe is when his official transition from pop to country music was made. To me, country music should have been his home from the very beginning even though it was proven at one point, in my opinion any way, that the beautiful precious did have it in him to deliver the more rock oriented material. (nodding with a smile)

Check out my most favorite singer, James Otto, when you can! I love him SO much!!! (smiles)
