There are some really pretty gals in Country. But I think its done better by the men. I like Suzy Bogguss and Patsy Cline and maybe a handful of female artists, but Country (like Rock music), sounds better when done by male vocalists. Pop and Dance music works better for girl singers. What do Y'all think?

The crowd of female vocalists in this century has been pretty mediocre (although the men aren't any better) but in the 1960s-1990s the women more than held their own and at times came close to dominating the music in the 1970's with Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Lynn Anderson, Barbara Mandrell, Emmylou Harris, Crystal Gayle, and a couple of others. In fact I remember famed rock critic Dave Marsh back in the early 1980's lamenting the fact that rock music had no produced as many important female artists on the same level as country music.
shareI prefer country music made before 1990, but I can only think of a few female vocalists from the 'classic' era that I would have bought a whole ALBUM of. Crystal Gayle and Dolly Parton would be two exceptions; I love to listen to both of them sing.

I'm a female and I personally think most, not all but the majority of female country singers Stink! Especially the ones in the last 10 years! They are just bad!
