The closure of the Ravel museum would be an act of cultural sabotage

Cute house. The government will probably save it, or some historical group, eventually, don't you think?

So "Bolero" made Ravel wealthy, according to the article. Good for him but bad how the money ended up.

I showed the picture to a Ravel-hating acquaintance, asking "If you knew this is the house Ravel chose to live in, would you like him better?" He nitpicked the windows. ("Not enough light.") Moral: next time ask him if he likes the house first, then tell him who lived there.

By the way, to anybody here who likes Ravel but hasn't heard "L'enfant et les sortileges" - which seems to be a lot of people - listen to it! It's short and may or may not be his magnum opus - I guess the competition is "Gaspard de la nuit" and "Daphnis and Chloe" - anyway, it's wonderful.

I have "L'enfant et les sortileges" in my collection (Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and have been listening to it lately. I like it a lot, but then I like Ravel. You can't hold Bolero against him forever.

Fantastic house and gardens though. Can't believe the French - the French! - won't save it. He has to be one of their most beloved composers, no?

Yeah, you should have caught him cold. No prior information!

I have listened to L'enfant et les sortileges. Quite enjoy it, but I much prefer Daphis and Chloe. I LOVE Bolero too! (Sorry!)

Of course after posting that I realized I'd left out the piano version of Le Tombeau de Couperin. Oops.

I have nothing against Bolero, but I don't think it much rewards repeated listening.

One hit wonder - and I don't even like that! Amazed he even has a museum - does Balero loop continuously? :D . Do the actual greats have museums? Elgar? Tchaikovsky? Rachmaninov? Williams?!

Awww, thinks Ravel's a one hit wonder and thinks Elgar and Rachmaninov are "actual great"s (I won't comment on the inclusion of John Williams except to say that I'm pretty sure even Goatlips realizes on some level that that's wishful thinking).

To answer the question, basically every great composer's homes get turned into museums.
