Can wet camera be fixed?

My digital camera (5 megapixel that does video clips in .avi format) got partly submerged in water, about half way up but not over the lens. Since then, about a year ago, it has failed to start up using two AA duracell batteries. Each time I put new batteries in and press the button to start it up it appears to short circuit the batteries to the extent of emptying them. I have tried leaving the battery flap open with the camera at different angles to see if it will dry out like most things will, but the same thing happens. Do you think this will be easy to fix?

"bake it" in the oven at a very low heat, or use a hair dryer and turn the heat off... at your own risk.

So crucify the ego before it's far too late, to leave behind this place so negative& blind& cynical

Sounds like it's fúcked to me! Buy a new one - they are cheap and it will be better than what you have now.

Alright perhaps I'll do both of these. Thanks for the replies.

I hope you used the hair dryer option first at least, baking it in an oven sounds rather risky to me considering how many soft plastics you'd find in a modern camera. I'd have removed as much casing as you could and put it in an airing cupboard for several days or maybe over a week without turning it on. Did this with a phone dropped in a puddle once and it came out ok.

Although, if you've got it wet over a year ago and it still doesn't work since powering it up I'd write it off frankly, it does unfortunately sound as though it's already been shorted and I'd doubt there would be any water still sloshing around over that amount of time. If you really want to keep this particular camera, then I'd take it to a repair shop and see what they have to say. The SD/CF card might still be ok if there's stuff you want to keep on it.

Don't know if this helps, but best of luck though.
