White matter on the brain's frontal lobes?

What does that mean when it's seen on an MRI scan? i tried looking it up online but was left confused. 

White matter is myelin, which is like the coating on an electrical cord. It coats the nerves so they can do their job properly. My son had a delay in myelination (found on MRI) and had developmental delays he's now overcome. A breakdown of the myelin is what occurs in disorders like Multiple Sclerosis, which is why the person then has difficulty performing some actions they previously could do.

I looked up white brain matter and frontal lobes and found a very good article for you: www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/neurology/newsroom/white_matter_feature.html Apparently, there can be a disorder of the white brain matter that can lead to various forms of dementia, but can often be treated.

I'd read the article then discuss more with your doctor before coming to a conclusion about what's wrong if that's what they found in you. The brain is pretty remarkable in its ability to compensate for problems in one area with other areas of the brain.

Does that occur when someone has been abused? (ie, being hit on the head)

I have no idea. It can come from inflammation, that's all I know.
