Problem losing weight.....need some tips

Ok I gained my weight back earlier this year and now I'm at 220 maybe a little more. I want to get back down to 170 like I was 4 years ago before I joined the military. I'm 32 now I do feel like its much harder to loose weight in your 30s or it could be me, I joined a gym and been a member for about 3 months now and I don't go everyday like I should and some days I get lazy which isn't good. For my workout I love cardio so I use the eliptical or stair master and some days I walk on the treadmil but I pefer walking outside and I'm trying to build up my running. My eating habits....I will say I love to eat but I've been trying to chill on the eating and trying to stay away from sweets and drink more water. I don't drink sodas. I wish I could afford a personal trainer or had a good one in my area I live in a small country town.

I'm a female and I'm 5'3. I'm trying to make myself go maybe each day out the week. If I do the eliptical or stairmaster I stay on the machine for 45 minutes to an hour. Ok now my diet....I like eating ceral for breakfast it might be the wrong kind of cereal, I try to stay away from fried foods I try to boil chicken or bake it, I don't eat bread as much as I used to but I do enjoy pasta I don't eat pasta all the time, I try to eat salads I haven't had a salad for a couple of weeks now I need to start back. I like eatiing those salad bags its to much to buying them every other day.

I think that is what it is some days what I'm doing bore me like last night I went to the gym and actually got bored I didn't stay long I stayed for about 20 minutes and that is not like me. I wish I did have some rollerblades I would rollerblade. Now jump roping is a good idea didn't think about that. I was doing zumba I might try to enroll in that class that was fun and made me sweat. How long does it take to build muscle I been trying to get back into doing push ups, and lifting like little weights.

getting a food scale and measuring out accurate portions can be an eye-opener as well, especially for men

Most definitely!

I got a food scale and measuring cup, and used a calorie-counting app (MyFitnessPal - not the best app but it has the biggest database of common foods)

I lost 50 lbs. over seven months and have kept it off now for a year & a half. But I never stopped using the app. Whenever I stopped logging ALL my meals & snacks, the weight would start creeping right back up.

The upside is I get to eat whatever I want - long as I log it and compensate by eating less at later or earlier meals

But yeah ... it takes some getting used to once you see what 200 calories actually looks like. Luckily, there are plenty of resources available to help you along.

The weakness in this method, of course, is that it's inconvenient and not always possible to do in some situations like family gatherings or restaurants

Inconvenient at first, but you learn tricks along the way.

For example, if I know generally what they'll be serving at a restaurant or family gathering, I pre-enter all the foods and edit the entry later if necessary

Actually saves time from poring over menus and/or buffet tables - I've made all my choices in advance

I also have a lot of pre-programmed "meals," where I group standard servings of my favorite main & side dishes. It's surprising, actually, how little variation there is in one's daily eating habits.
