Most mind-blowing historical random fact???

this is a common one but it never ceases to amaze me: less years separate us right this minute and when the Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur walked the earth than the years that separate when the Tyrannosaurus and the stegosaurus walked the earth.

The Stegosaurus lived on earth about 150 million years ago while the T-Rex lived about 68 million years ago. In other words, over 80 million years separate these two famous dinosaurs while 'only' a mere 68 million years separate us and the t rex!

My mind cannot comprehend this! to know that we are closer in time to the Most famous dinosaur than it is to another famous dinosaur! as a kid you always just assumed that all dinosaurs chilled out together at the same time!

a similar (but less mind-blowing) one is that less amount of years separate us and Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra than what separate her and the building of the pyramids. the pyramids predate her by about 2500 years while she predates us by 'only' about 2080 years.

anyone have any other amazing historical facts like this?

Yes - Neanderthal Man was around for DOUBLE the amount of time Homo sapiens sapiens have been around before we even appeared on the scene. They appeared 600,000 years ago; we, 200,000 years ago.

There were "air lines" before airplanes were invented.

Many early railroad companies used the term "air line" in their name, such as Seacoast Air Line (SAL). What they are referring to is the shortest distance on a map, what we call "as the bird flies." Shortest distance was related to fastest route for a train line, so the shorter one was, the faster one was. This was a big selling point in the competitive railroad industry.

Winston Churchill was the first known person to use the acronym 'OMG' for 'Oh My God.' He used it in a letter that I believe was dated in 1915 (I no longer have the trivia calendar I found the information on).

Not Churchill. It was Admiral Sir John Fisher to Churchill.

The only US president to have an entire province (plus a city) named after him is

Rutherford B. Hayes. The provence is Presidente Hayes and the city (the former provincial capital) is Ciudad Hayes.
