No.
Secret Societies were a faddish thing in the 17 and 1800s. Most were gentlemen's clubs where guys go to eat, drink, smoke cigars, discuss politics and do business deals. Most came and went.
Some were/are bad. Groups such as the Klu Klux Klan were a type of secret society. They became violent and murdered people. Best to distrust and stay away from such groups. (You know how the KKK leadership has, to us, funny names such as Imperial Wizard and Grand Dragon? Those types of fantastical titles were common to clubs in the 1800s. It's a legacy from that period.)
Many clubs were political or business guild oriented. I read that Paul Revere was a member of a dozen or so clubs in Boston back in the 1770s. This is partly what made him a valuable guy, he was well known, got around and passed messages.
