Movies about U.S. history?

I need to do a movie analysis for school. I would prefer the movie to be around 1870 or before, but it can be after that time period. I was thinking either Forrest Gump or The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Please help! Thanks!

Well if you want something like 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly', I take it you mean you want films set during certain eras of US history but not exactly about real events? Well, I'd suggest watching other spaghetti westerns. Most are set around the 1870s, but some are around the 1860s (like 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' is) and some are after (I believe 'The Great Silence' is set around the 1890s). Here is a list of my personal favourite Spaghetti westerns:

1.The Forgotten Pistolero
2. Day of Anger
3. The Great Silence
4. Texas Adios
5. For A Few Dollars More
6. Face To Face
7. Django
8. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
9. The Big Gundown
10. Blindman
11. The Grand Duel
12. The Hellbenders
13. A Fistful of Dollars
14. Today It's Me...Tomorrow You!
15. Django Kill, if You Live, Shoot!
16. Death Rides A Horse
17. Keoma
18. Ace High
19. Once Upon A Time In The West
20. My Name is Nobody
21. They call him Cemetery
22. Any Gun Can Play
23. Stranger In Japan/Silent Stranger
24. Sabata
25. Red Sun
26. Johnny Yuma
27. China 9, Liberty 37
