Favorite Historical Films

Even though they were not very accurate, I still enjoyed them:
The Other Boleyn Girl (Very inaccurate, but it was still interesting. It is not only one of my favorite historical films, but one of my favorite films overall)

i found the other boleyn girl to be terrible in all aspects. first, the book by the same name is nothing like the movie. instead, the movie is just another version of mary/anne. plus, i found the characters undeveloped and the scenes stuffy.

i agree with marie antoinette though. inaccurate, but I loved the new spin sofia coppola gave it. more like poetry than a movie. visually appealing.

I really enjoy Cate's portrayal of Elizabeth I in both movies. I think she makes her very realistic, vulnerable, strong, vain, etc.

Technically a mini-series, but John Adams is, by far, the best portrayal of history where it's both honest, raw, and exciting. so many scenes gave me goosepumps, and the special effects are simply incredible.

i'm waiting for the Amelia, Queen Victoria, and abraham lincoln movies. I think the other "historical" movies I enjoy are more drama than history.

I particularly love biographical films and TV series about major figures from art, literature and music (there are very interesting TV series about Strauss, Verdi and Wagner). Luckily, I keep discovering more of them. Just discovered The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965) today, about Michelangelo...

I absolute love historical films, thank you so much for this post, I will take in consideration every suggestion made.
I don't have a list of favorite in order but I could mention some that I have really enjoyed:

Elizabeth I - with Hellen Mirren, love Cate version but Hellen Mirren was fab in that role, and the all movie was superior on my opinion.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII ( the series)

Malcom X

Schindler's List

Hotel Rwanda (but not sure how much is accurate)
