Films on Irish history

Aren't there any movies about the long and great history of Ireland? The only one I've seen is "Michael Collins", of course, which deals with the War of Independence from the Easter Rising of 1916 to the Civil War 1921-23 (and teaches a great lesson on how a group of guerillas can be turned into a regular liberation army!) - isn't there anything about the many earlier events, Wolfe Tone and the United Irishmen, the Rebellion of '98, Cromwell's atrocities, the struggle against the invading army of Elizabeth I., the fights with the Vikings, or even St. Patrick's history (real, no blarney...)?

Braveheart
The Quiet Man

Sorry, but "Braveheart" is about the SCOTTISH freedom fighter William Wallace (only a small part of it deals with the Irish troops that were supposed to fight for Edward I. against the rebellious Scots, but joined them instead); actually there seem to be more historical or semi-historical films about Scotland than about Ireland (like "Rob Roy", with Irishman Liam Neeson in the title role...). "The Quiet Man" is a nice piece of 'genuine' Irish atmosphere, with that special Irish humor in it (and, of course, Maureen O'Hara!), but nothing to do with history, just like "Happy ever after" and some other Irish-American movies. So let's keep on searching, maybe one of us WILL find something REAL historical!

Tristan and Isolde.

Its not the usual anti English propaganda that Americans love so much but it is historical and a very very old story.

Enjoy

Thank you very much! Can you tell me when and where it was made, and who were the main actors?
