The key is to understand the frequences, you usually have about 4 different modulators on those things (unless you got a cheap wallmart one, that I doubt even work).
You can see it as sort of adjusting the treble and bass on the stereo, you need to have both treble and bass to sound good and set up just the right way so it's not too much of one of the other.
Or maybe comparing it with radio-frequences for different radiostations is a better comparison, if you're not exactly on the right frequency you can get disturbances and it will be hard to hear.
And just like radiostations every spirit 'work' on different frequences, well not every spirit of course but like you rarely come across two that are working on the same channel after another or whatever. So you can't just tweak it, get a spirit go somewhere else and expect another spirit to go in there, and they can swap frequences often if they are scared (yes spirits can get scared) so tweaking becomes essential for the usage of a ghost box.
You know how robbers crack old bankvaults and stuff? That's sort of how you do it you have to turn all 4 modulator switches to just the right position to unlock the vaults of spirits if you will.
You go through one by one and usually if you hear a distortion sound that's when you know you have that modulator switch set right and move to the next starting from 1 moving up until you hear another sound, and then to the third doing the same and by the time you get to the fourth you should have cracked the code and start hearing more substantial things. Such as loud breathing, or voices talking, I've encountered sobbing alot.
So yeah LISTEN and feel yourself out is the key, and do it systematically not just switch a little here at random and a little here at random cause if you do, yeah chances are that even if you pick something up you will just hear static and noise, or unhearable chatter.
And Huffparanormal is more or less a joke among us more sincere ghost whisperers (if you want to call it that) we call him Bluffparanormal.
Somedays you just can't dispose of a bomb.
