Need Help With Two Cases On Mysterious Holes

There are two paranormal cases that really bug me, as in get under my skin and truly unnerve me.

1. This case was featured on Arthur C. Clarkes Mysterious World back in the 1980s. It took place in the U.K. It featured a couple who were caretakers of a Church if my memory is correct. One day, the man came outside and notice a very large hole had opened up near the sidewalk. He went up to it and looked down and was astonished that it was pitch black. So he bent over and looked more closely. He could not see the bottom of the hole. Instead, all he saw was blackness so dark that there was nothing else. He went in and got his wife and made her come out and see the hole. She was shocked as well. The man told the wife he was going to town to get some plywood to put over the hole so nobody would accidentally fall in. He left. He was gone about an hour. When he returned to his amazement the hole was gone. He got his wife to come out again and she could not believe her eyes. The hole was just gone. There was only solid earth, complete with grass where the hole was just an hour before. If you have any further information on this case please reply and let me know!

2. I'm not sure where this case happened. I read about it in a book on the paranormal years ago. It might have taken place in the U.S. An elderly couple was staying in a hotel. They called the police one early morning. When the police arrived they found the couple in bed and they were crying and cowering in fear. The room was a mess. There was broken furniture and papers and trash strewn about. When the police finally calmed the couple down, the couple told the police that the wife was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of wind and of things moving around in the room. The wife woke up the husband who got out of bed to find out what was going on. To his horror he says there was a dark hole on the floor that appeared to be sucking air into it like a giant vacuum. Papers, trash and other objects were flying about. The man got too close to the hole and it started to suck him in as well but he reached for his wife who was able to drag him back to the bed. The couple could do nothing but cower in bed while objects flew around before disappearing into the hole. Eventually everything stopped. The wind died and there was no more debris in the air. They couple peered over the bed and the hole in the floor was gone. The floor looked absolutely normal with no sign of damage. The police believed the couple was genuinely frightened but did not know what to make of their story. If you have any additional information on this case I would love to hear it as well. Thanks!

No information on either, but it does sound interesting. I have heard of an urban legend about a stairway to Hell somewhere out west (I think Kansas?) that is near an old abandoned church in a cemetery somewhere. I looked deeply into it several years ago, and found that all the old articles too it (stumbling from one site to the next through footnotes and links etc..) all led back to someones claims on a paranormal chatroom in the mid 1990s. Otherwise, no prior evidence, and most linked back to that. Obviously, I don't believe it - but perhaps your stories were also urban legends?

perhaps your stories were also urban legends?

Maybe on the second case. On the first case, the actual man and woman were interviewed and the site where the hole was originally at was filmed.

Fascinating.
There were only 13 episodes of Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World (1980) and the whole of it is available on DVD now.
Although I've enjoyed that show, unfortunately I can't recall that church hole mystery.

... I got sidetracked

So your best bet may be to get the DVDs for the show and go from there.

The second scenario sounds strangely familiar. I keep finding info on mysterious holes, and more and more mysterious holes seem to be forming, but nothing on holes that vanish after they form.

I have the Arthur C. Clarke collection of DVDs but I haven't watched them in some time. The next time I do I'll have to pay more attention and see if they give details like names and times and such.
