Movie versions of Dracula
Which movie version of Dracula is your favorite?
shareI like them all but my fave would be a toss up between Francis ford coppolas Dracula, or dan curtis's Dracula, I enjoy the Christopher lee movies but they lack something I find, I didn't like the 1979 Dracula way too romanticised, the bela Lugosi Dracula is still classic though in my opinion although far from Bieng a definitive version of events, there was a good version from 2006 also stating Marc warren, the 1979 nosfuratu is also a good version.
shareI really love the Nosferatu takes on Dracula. Both the classic silent film and Werner Herzog's 1979 remake, though I prefer Herzog's for the more tragic elements of the character. Just something so off putting, timeless and demonic about him. Gives me goosebumps.
shareThe 1931 Lugosi version. Lugosi permanently redefined the character in a way that is still the definitive interpretation almost a century later.
The magnitude of that achievement can not be downplayed. As far as popular culture is concerned, there is no definitive Ebenezer Scrooge, no definitive Sherlock Holmes, but if you ask most moviegoers to portray Dracula they use the look and voice of Lugosi.
I think Robert Newton deserves similar credit for what he did with the character of Long John Silver, and indeed every pirate interpretation which followed.
