About 'One crazy night' films.

You know, like SUPERBAD and ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING. I noticed that a lot of recent films have tried to revive this sub-genre (21 & OVER; TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT; I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER).

What I want to know is which was the very first film of this kind. It must've been an '80s film, right?

American Graffiti (1973)?

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

I meant wacky comedies.

"Wacky comedies" -- it sounds almost redundant...

reply

Hmmm. I'm sure there have been others before but After Hours (1985) is a good example.

Blind Date?

Is Superbad a "whacky" comedy? My idea of whacky is Farrely Bros, Ace Ventura, The Marx Bros.

By the way, Superbad takes place over a day, a night and then the following day.

Bringing Up Baby and His Girl Friday both take place over one night if Superbad is the criteria.

For me, "whacky" has to do with the situations. SUPERBAD is about a crazy and adventurous trip where the characters get into trouble everywhere they go, and they meet a lot of not-everyday people.

Good point.

Those are good examples.

Blind Date and After Hours are both examples where the characters get into trouble wherever they go and meet a lot of weird people.
