I know my description is pretty broad, so I'll just list a few shows that I really enjoy:
Buffy
Angel
Dollhouse
Battlestar Galactica (Really looking for something of this caliber, I watched this show last year and I absolutely loved it.)
The Leftovers
Humans
Travelers
Person of Interest
I've heard a lot of good things about Firefly, but I couldn't really get into it. I might give it another try in the future.
I've heard some good things about this show, so perhaps I'll give it a go :). I only know one person who has seen any of it, but he gave up after a few eps. This was back when the show was just taking off though, and I'm not opposed to waiting for a show to get its footing. (Person of Interest is a pretty good example of that, IMO.)
LOL I was going to say Firefly :) after you mentioned 3 other Joss Whedon shows in a row.
Ummm?
Supernatural.
Stargate Sg1 is surprisingly good.
My wife would probably recommend Pretty Little Liars. Not my thing, but lots of character building and it is kinda supernatural.
Yeah :P I'm a pretty big Joss fanboy. I caught some Buffy reruns when I was younger and fell in love. Watched Angel shortly after, then didn't really look into any of his other stuff for a while. I saw Dollhouse last year and hated myself for waiting so long to watch. Now I'm currently watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and I'm definitely enjoying it. Nice to see some familiar faces on there.
I actually was about to watch an ep of Stargate: Atlantis today for the very first time! I've heard some good things, and I hear it's not necessary to watch the original first. I will definitely give SG1 a try if I enjoy Atlantis.
I've seen Supernatural, but I haven't watched consistently since Season 9-ish.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D eh?
I haven't seen that one. I'll have to make a note to check it out.
I like supernatural, but have a hard time watching more than a few episodes in a week, then I loose interest for long periods of time, when though I enjoy it.
Dollhouse, I couldn't get into. Have up at 3 episodes, but I keep meaning to come back to it as I think I would like it given the right mood.
Les Revenants - Similar to The Leftovers, but French. It also has an American remake, but I haven't seen it, so I can't say if it's any good.
Being Human UK
Misfits - Do superpowers fall under Supernatural/Sci-fi?
Äkta människor (Real Humans) - The Swedish original to Humans.
Farscape - I've heard people have a hard time getting through the first half of season one, but it's a great show.
Fringe?
Eureka - I'm not sure if it's character driven per se, but it's very fun.
And I second the Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. You don't need to have seen SG1 first, but it will maybe enrich you viewing experience, sinse there are crossovers between the two shows. And those two have enough episodes to keep you occupied for quite a while :D
Farscape's one of my all time favourites! The moment I saw a blue lady and puppets I was in love :D My friends in high school thought I was weird, when I tried to get them into it, of course.
Z Nation is so much fun. I should really catch up with the latest season.
How's The Expanse? I've been looking for a good "space/aliens" show. I tried Defiance a while back, but it didn't fit the bill with me.
I was kind of the opposite when I saw it had a Muppet in it and I was like, how can I take this seriously with a muppet as a character? But of course he became one of my favourites (Scorpius will always be the best character in it).
It's weird how you forget Pilot and Rygel are puppets. And Scorpius is an excellent character. Aeryn Sun was always my favourite. You don't see that level of make up and practical stuff anymore.
I've seen almost all of Legion, there are only 8 episodes, right?? I'm liking it a lot so far, but I've been waiting for it to finish airing so that I can watch it all at once.
Loved Westworld.
Not crazy about The 100 anymore, but I'm almost caught up with season 4.
I've definitely heard of Misfits, but no clue what it's actually about. I'll look into it later :). Thanks for the recommendations everyone!
The 100 I think has got much better as time has passed.
Misfits is totally hilarious and there have been many occassions I have had tears streaming down my face at some of the things that happen in it. It is such a brilliant show. Made even better when Joseph Gilgun joined it later in the series.
Is the American remake called 'The Returned'? If so, I saw it. It got cancelled after S1, but I enjoyed the aspect of it for sure. I checked out a few eps of the French version and really liked it.
I watched some Fringe back in the day but couldn't get into it. Heard great things about Farscape/Babylon 5, so I'll probably watch sometime in the future.
I get the Fringe thing. It's a bit procedural in the beginning (is that what you call it lol), but it builds more of a mythology, I guess, as it goes on.
Thanks for reminding me of Babylon 5. I've been meaning to watch that.
