I just revised my list adding my new favorite show: Legion. This show is amazing! It's the biggest mind f**k since Twin Peaks:
Upstairs/Downstairs
Cosmos (Carl Sagan version)
Twin Peaks
House
Hill Street Blues
Fargo
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Better Call Saul
The Twilight Zone
Legion
Honorable mentions:
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
MST3K
The Civil War by Ken Burns
Parks and Recreation
The Sopranos
Well, if you liked them, you might like some others on the list. Ally McBeal was created/written by David E. Kelley, who also wrote The Practice, Boston Legal and Picket Fences. Ally and the Practice even had a couple crossover episodes.
SportsNight was created/written by Aaron Sorkin, who also created The West Wing, Studio 60 and The Newsroom.
These are my two favorite television writers. Kelley has written a number of other shows, and they both have numerous Emmy Awards. They have also both written movies, though Sorkin has had much greater success in this area.
Anyway, I recommend both, highly. But I gotta give Moonlighting the top spot. So creative, so fun, so witty. It took so many chances. Not all of them paid off, but when they did...:) :) :)
I wasn't too impressed by the episode tonight, but the others I liked, though, yeah, certainly not subtle.
This is a different type of show, though. Although Kelley "created" it, it is based on a novel, and tonight's episode had two different writers, so I'm not sure what his involvement is, exactly, Joe Buck.
I have a sense of humor, but you're just rude. You call me names, you ignore my suggestions, you criticize a show I like. I get the feeling you're kind of laughing at me, not with me. There's a difference.
Who comes to a thread about recommendations, gets them, then says, "No thanks, I'm good." That's a douche. I tried to be helpful and was ridiculed. I guess you didn't recognize my humor, either.
I like some on your list, but really have a cut off: nothing past '82 would ever make my list. So:
1. Addams Family
2. Star Trek
3. Batman
4. I Dream of Jeannie
5. Lou Grant
6. The White Shadow
7. Dark Shadows
8. To Tell the Truth
9. Alfred Hitchcock Presents/Hour
10. Twilight Zone
But. the one I watch every night: Jeopardy.
1. Blackadder
2. House of Cards (UK, 1990)
3. Borgen
4. Bron (The Bridge)
5. Secret Army
6. Derrick (Germany, 1974)
7. Homeland
8. The Good Wife
9. Alfred Hitchcock Presents
10. Columbo
It's really difficult to find anything currently that I find exceptional. Maybe something exists somewhere that I'm not streaming but I have enough for now ..
If it does exist I'll get around to it
