what is the point of having Hawkeye and Black Widow on the Avengers

Hawkeye is a maestro with shooting arrows and BW can kick ass. But if he runs out of arrows and she runs out of bullets, how effective are they? Sure they know martial arts (well done) but how will that help them in a fight against Loki or Thanos or Red Skull or the average supervillain?

and Yes I recall that Avengers sketch on SNL featuring Hawkeye. But I'd like a serious discussion. what do the non-superpowered regulars on the Avengers offer as an advantage to being on the team? why aren't Hawkeye and BW the same as Coulson or Maria Hill?

Coulson and Hill are primarily spies. Widow started out in the comics as a spy but over time, she became a costumed hero. Hawkeye started as a villain but became a hero as well.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

Black Widow because she's a woman and a cheap character to translate.

Hawkeye? I have no idea.

Hawkeye - take him of leave him, my least favourite Marvel character. They really have to stain themselves to get any kind of use out of him in comics and films.
Black Widow is a completely different story -she's gorgeous!!! Black leather suits and kicks ass, are you crazy to say there is no place for her. Ive always loved the comic character and Ive really grown to love the film version. Not only is she so beautiful she can act as well. Lets face it the scripts are pretty banal, they are comic books for goodness sake, hardly Mike Leigh but she gives it all she's got.
Keep her in I say.
