Issues With Audio/Video Sync

I got a Samsung LED TV (with great picture by the way) as a Christmas present in order to get the most out of my Blu Ray collection that I've been building up. I was baffled when I first got everything hooked up because the audio and video were out of sync, with the video coming before the audio. I messed with the audio delay and everything but it never worked. I tried several HDMI cables and eventually discovered that all I had to do was switch which end was going into what, but the issue is that I have to keep alternating the input/output depending on what movie I watch.

I use my DirectTV box/DVR and Xbox 360 on HDMI 1/DVI, while I use my computer and Blu Ray player on HDMI 2. I only have two HDMI ports, so I have to switch the cables depending on what I'm using. The only thing that has the audio delay issue is the Blu Ray player. I even switched Blu Ray players and had the same issue.

Each HDMI cable is running directly from two of the four objects I mentioned to the TV without a receiver. Could this be my issue? I find that strange though since I only have that problem with the Blu Ray player. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your leap to blu-ray, am glad you're enjoying the great picture, and sorry to hear of your audio-versus-video sync woes.

Are you listening to the audio through the TV's built-in speakers through the same HDMI cable, or running a separate coax or optical audio cable to an A/V receiver?

I've never had this issue, and I think it might be because I only use the HDMI cable for video. For audio, I run a coax cable out of my Sony blu-ray player into my Sony A/V receiver.

One SHOULD be able to enjoy audio and video out of the same HDMI cable, but maybe Samsung assumes that you'll be bypassing the TV's speakers and listening to blu-rays on a high-quality surround-sound system, so they chintz on the audio processing capability of their TVs.

Have you tried unhooking and then reconnecting without alternating in/outputs?

My Samsung TV also has "(DVI)" marked next to HDMI input 1, and "(ARC)" (audio return channel) next to HDMI input 2. However mine has 4 inputs. I use a separate HDMI switch, and run it into input 3 because I've had annoying problems with the DVI port. Since DVI is for computers, I'd plug the computer into #1, and use #2 for the others. Since you have more HDMI components than you have HDMI inputs, you might consider investing in a HDMI switch, so you don't have to keep swapping cables. It's possible that the constant cable swapping has worn out one of those delicate pins, and that's what's causing the problem.

Also, check your TV's settings to make sure that the HDMI inputs are set properly. Go through the menu and look for anything with "HDMI" in it. For example, mine has a setting called "Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)". I don't use it, so it's set to "Off".

The only audio delay settings on my set are for the S/PDIF output, which I use. Mine came set to "30" and I have no problems.

Re-read the fine manual too to see if it mentions any alternate HDMI settings for your set that you can check. IIRC 2-input sets have switchable ARC on one HDMI port, and leaving it enabled could cause problems.

Good luck!

Check the settings on the blu ray player. There may be a "24p output" or similar that may be defaulted to "off". You need to activate that or the player will output everything at 60hz with 3:2 pulldown, which causes a/v sync issues.
