Post spiritual quotes you like

The idea is to post a quote you find inspirational, profound, thought-provoking or whatever! It doesn't have to be by a religious figure (but it certainly can be) and it doesn't matter whether you particularly like the person who said it or the religion they belong to (if any).

I'll start:
When we see men of worth, we should think of equalling them; when we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves. - Confucius

Isha Upanishad verse 9 is one I have never understood and never ever seen an explanation that satisfies my curiosity. Sorry this is not great but one mysterious quote.

Multiple translations of the same verse and I am stunned at how differently they have been translated by different teachers.

Those who advocate (and follow) the philosophy of not becoming one (with the Brahman), they enter in to darkness; those who desire (and follow) the philosophy of becoming one (with the Brahman) enter in to increased blinding darkness than the former.

‘They enter into blinding darkness who worship avidya (ignorance and delusion); into still greater darkness, as it were, do they enter who delight in vidya (Knowledge).’

“Into blinding darkness pass they who adhere to karma and into still greater darkness, as it were, they who delight in meditation.”

"Into a blind darkness they enter who follow after the Ignorance, they as if into a greater darkness who devote themselves to the Knowledge alone." (Sri Aurobindo's Translation)

Here is one translation from eswaran with a bit more of explanation.

In dark night live those
For whom the world without alone is real;
In night darker still, for whom the world within
Alone is real. The first leads to a life
Of action, the second of meditation.
But those who combine action with meditation
Go across the sea of death through action
And enter into immortality
Through the practice of meditation.
So have we heard from the wise.

Thermodynamic miracles... Events with odds against so astronomical they're effectively impossible, like oxygen spontaneously becoming gold. I long to observe such a thing. And yet, in each human coupling, a thousand million sperm vie for a single egg. Multiply those odds by countless generations, against the odds of your ancestors being alive; meeting; siring this precise son; that exact daughter... Until your mother loves a man she has every reason to hate, and of that union, of the thousand million children competing for fertilization, it was you, only you, that emerged. To distill so specific a form from that chaos of improbability, like turning air to gold... That is the crowning unlikelihood. The thermodynamic miracle.
~Doctor Manhattan, Watchmen (written by Alan Moore, of course)

watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” - Frank Outlaw.

“You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe, an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately you are not a person, but a focal point where the universe is becoming conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.” - Eckhart Tolle.
