Plasma Screen

My stranded TV is slowing going as I get random colors on screen when watching TV and when watching a video or DVD. So I saw this 81 cm Plasma screen T.V in the catalog for $579 is that a good price for a plasma? and would there be higher picture quality when watching a blu-ray movie on the plasma? I don't think it has a HD turner built in.

Is the TV from the catalog used? I ask this because:

1. $579 is quite a low price for a plasma TV of any size.
2. 81 cm (32 inch) is no longer an available size for new plasma TVs. Plasmas currently start at 37 inches.

Given the above (plus the fact it doesn't have a built in tuner), I would also question if the TV is capable of displaying 1080p. In order to get the best picture from a Blu-ray player, the TV must be capable of 1080p.

What is the exact brand/model you are looking at?

Resolution: 852 x 480 pixels, brightness 500 cd/m2, contrast 1500:1 (typicall. viewing angle 180 degrees, PC multimedia input, HDMI input support made in korea. Brand name: AWA and its brand new. This is all the information given in the catalog.

At that resolution, the best picture you could get would be 480p (standard DVD resolution). It would be absolutely worthless for viewing Blu-ray or any other high-definition programming. While it may be a new TV, it's using a display panel that is using obsolete technology.
