Which model gives the best black and fast action showcase?

Good Day.

Among the existing LCD TV panels I mean. Deep black colour and crisp image of fast moving objects. I believe the good old TVs are still unbeatable in this field.

Because of the nature of the technology--a backlight shining through a panel that selectively becomes more or less opaque--LCD is the display technology that's got the most issues with contrast ratio and fast motion; Plasma, CRT (what you refer to as "good old TV's") and even DLP technologies are generally superior. But advances are being made in the technology, and last year Sharp demonstrated 1000000:1 contrast ratio LCD screens that will no doubt make their way into LCD TVs of the future.

I can't wait until OLEDs start becoming available. Anybody know kinda prices we'll be looking at for them?

It'd be awesome have a roll up screen that you could hang on your wall and then roll down when you wanna use it, roll it up when you don't... kinda like a projection screen without the projector.

Plasma displays suck a lot of power too, don't they? Anyway, it doesn't much matter in the winter time since the TV just substitutes for watts you'd otherwise have to get from the baseboard heater or furnace. Summer, not so good, especially if you use A/C to get rid of that extra heat... better to watch an LCD in the shade outside.

CRT isn't perfect when it comes to motion; the phosphors take a while to decay. If there's a moving bright light on a black background you'll see a trail.

Get a Pioneer Elite plasma for now, and then in 5 years when OLED is available at the size and price you want, replace it. I know you said LCD, but plasma is the way to go for what you want.

Or if you are really a stickler for quality above all else, follow Jonas's suggestions. No reason to get an LCD over a plasma though, if you want better blacks and fast action.
