My choice has been plasma...I work as a TV producer...and I like the deep blacks that can't be matched still by LCD sets...which give richer color. also the wider viewing area...the clean movements without motion blur....the more film like resolution and sharpness without artificial looking sharpness enhancement...
shareYou would have to buy the best LCD or LED models to get anything close to the better plasmas, so I would also say plasma.
shareThe TVs currently in stores that use the "LED" name TVs that stores aren't truely LED TVs, they are still LCDs but use better backlighting technology for brighter colors and overall thinner profile, the true OLED TVs will be coming shortly.
back on the original topic, I have heard Plasmas ofcourse have the better black levels and such, but the thing that turns me off the most to them is the prospect of screen burn-in, which has been known to happen quicker than with a CRT TV. A relative has a Plasma and is forced to watch SD programming in stretch mode because the pillar box setting nearly burned the black bars right into her TV. Thats why I've been looking into DLP TVs, no burn in, and good black levels.
!BAZINGA!
So finally after 10 months of research I finally bought an HDTV. Sadly I had to wait so long because some serious finical things came up but I was lucky enough to get past them and get a nice Christmas bonus. I ended up buying the Sony BRAVIA 46" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV model number KDL46EX500. It cost almost $900 plus I bought a home theater system($350) since I hear that most new HDTVs don't have very good sound out of the box and I also added an Sony Blu Ray player which was $120. Plus the warranty but since I spent so much the nice people at Best Buy gave me free in home installation(which would have been another $150).
The TV is being setup early next week and I will let everyone know how it looks. Thanks again for all the help over the many months.
