Old SEGA 'projector specs' / 3D version available today?

A few years back a neighbour showed me a new piece of equipement he'd picked up for his games console... I'm pretty certain it was a SEGA machine of some sort.
It was a pair of 'chunky' glasses which plugged into the console and delivered the screen image directly to tiny projectors/screens built into the 'lenses' of the glasses. You effectively got a huge widescreen image delivered directly into your eyes. I may be imagining it, but there may have been some sort of headphones built in?

Anyway, I find myself owning a 3D Blu Ray player with no 3D display device, and toying with the idea of a new TV, a projector of some sort... or maybe some 3D 'player specs' along the lines of that old SEGA gadget, if such a thing exists. It seems the perfect medium for an 'instant' 3D HD widescreen hit, what with the individual eye-screens in the individual lenses.

Does this make any sense, and does anyone know who'd make such a thing?

Thanks in advance :)

It's potentially a good idea, once prices come down. Nothing else will be able to deliver a big high quality picture and be as portable.
